The More The Merrier

In the wild rabbits life in large groups called warrens. They are very sociable animal's that like the company of their own kind. Despite popular belief guinea pigs do not make good companion's for rabbit. They eat different foods, speak different languages and a rabbits kick can kill a guinea pig.

Always remember to neuter at least six weeks before bonding. This is to prevent any accidental babies and hormonal fighting.

Once neutered it roughly takes 6-8 weeks for a male rabbit's sperm to be completely gone. Females need to be neutered to prevent the high risk of ovarian cancer.

Bonding should always be done on neutral territory such as a new indoor cage, bath tub or bathroom floor. All rabbits should have been neutered, and it's wise to ensure no rabbits have contagious disease's.

Here is my method to bonding rabbits:

- Set up a large indoor cage

- Have at least one person per bun

- place a plate of fresh greens/treat's in the middle of the cage

- put all the buns in the cage

- watch for any aggression

- leave in cage for at least 24 hours

- once bonding is complete slowly increase the space

If any rabbits fall out after the bonding (can be for many reason's such as new territory, too much space too fast) Just go back to step one.

Ensure all rabbits are entertained in their new surroundings by plenty of toys. When distracted by toys, human contact etc. they're less likely to fall out.
